In the end-piece, Farewell to Five Bells, Olsen incorporates more recent pictures; a playful self-caricature in black beanie, hands to face (titled "After the Opera House what shall I do next?"); pelicans; his much-loved frogs; and an especially lovely brolga. One can't help reflecting how, in later life, Olsen has developed a miraculous looseness, reminiscent of Japanese artist Hokusai's declaration: "At 90 I'll have penetrated the mystery of things. At 100 I shall have reached something marvellous, but when I am a 110 everything I do, the smallest dot, will be alive."
