is Senior Lecturer in Animal Law at Liverpool John Moores University. He was one of the first academics in the world to introduce Animal Law into the higher education law degree curriculum. His Animal Law module, introduced with Dr Debbie Legge in 1994, was a pioneering development. To date, over 1,000 law students have studied this unique undergraduate module which, unusually in law, took the approach of analysing law through the prism of sustainability and the philosophy of animal rights. Whereas his course was originally one of only two or three such courses, there are now over 120 worldwide. Simon was the lead-author of Law Relating to Animals (Cavendish, 1997), which was written to support his legal education development work. However, it has become recognised world-wide as a leading text in the area and is widely cited by academics and animal welfare groups alike, particularly in relation to the historical development of law relating to animals. A long-awaited second edition is in preparation. Simon’s current research interests lie in the area of using the study of Animal Law as a vehicle for sustainability teaching in legal education.

Asali DeVan Ecclesiastes is a mother, daughter, wife, educator, author, event producer and community developer. Most know her by her many pursuits, but the way she knows herself and the world around her is through her exploration of “the word.” Rooted in the cultural soil of New Orleans and watered by the writings of her literary idols, including Kalamu ya Salaam and Toni Morrison, DeVan Ecclesiastes has grown to bask in the sun of her literary heritage -- from sages who transformed pharaoh to God in Ancient Khemet, to spy boys who chant the way clear for Big Chiefs on Mardi Gras day.

During his time in Congress, Gore was considered a "moderate" (he once referred to himself as a "raging moderate") [45] opposing federal funding of abortion, voting in favor of a bill which supported a moment in silence in schools, and voting against a ban on interstate sales of guns. [46] In 1981, Gore was quoted as saying with regard to homosexuality, "I think it is wrong", and "I don't pretend to understand it, but it is not just another normal optional life style." In his 1984 Senate race, Gore said when discussing homosexuality, "I do not believe it is simply an acceptable alternative that society should affirm." He also said that he would not take campaign funds from gay rights groups. [47] Although he maintained a position against homosexuality and gay marriage in the 1980s, Gore said in 2008 that he thinks "gay men and women ought to have the same rights as heterosexual men and women...to join together in marriage." [48] His position as a moderate (and on policies related to that label) shifted later in life after he became Vice President and ran for president in 2000 . [49]
