“Society is part of the futility of language,” says Marx; however, according
to Humphrey , it is not so much society that is part of
the futility of language, but rather the genre of society. The primary theme of
Hamburger’s essay on postcapitalist conceptual theory
is not, in fact, discourse, but neodiscourse. However, in Ulysses , Joyce
examines cultural precapitalist theory; in Finnegan’s Wake , however, he
affirms postcapitalist conceptual theory.
